HARGEISA — While much of the world’s attention focused on Great Britain’s Prince William and his girlfriend, Catherine Middleton. Thursday was also a joyful day for Somalilandpress’ Abdiqani Hussein Baynah, who married his long time sweetheart Jamila Abdi Adan in a warm ceremony before family and friends in Hargeisa.
Members of Somaliland’s government, opposition groups, journalists, business leaders, religious groups, intellectuals and students all sent their well wishes for the newly wed couples.
Abdirashid Mohamed Duale, the CEO of Dahabshiil groups, who attended the ceremony in Panorama Hotel said he was happy to be part of the event. He extended his well wishes for the new couple. He said his company has a profound responsibility to promote social programs in the community. He added Dahabshiil plans to encourage and sponsor youths in the country to tie the knot.

Due to the high unemployment in the country, in particular among the youth, many can not afford weddings or pay for dowries. Dahabshiil says it plans to introduce iniatitives to support marriage and family formation. Mr Duale said Dahabshiil’s vision is to develop human capital along side its traditional economic activities. Dahabshiil is the largest remittance company in Africa with more than 24,000 agents around the world. It is also the largest employer in Somaliland and Somalia and plans to expand into neighboring states.
The wedding of Abdiqani Baynah and Jamila Adan, which was beautifully done was one that signified happiness, hope and promise. Those who congratulated the newly wed included Mr Abdullahi Jama, Minister of Fishery and Ports, Mr Abdi Aw-Dahir, Veterinary Services Ministry of Livestock Development, Mr Hassan Omar Hori, Director of Postal Services and Communication, Mr Jamal Ali Hussein, Chairman of Citibank Group (Tanzania), Mustafa Abdi Mohamed “Mustafa Janale” (Hadhwanaag reporter) and hundreds of others.
