Sheikh- (Berberanews)- Sheikh Technical Veterinary School (STVS), a specialized Academic Institution and a Reference Centre for arid and semi arid lands (ASALs) is on the pathway to become a Regional Institution serving pastoralists in IGAD member countries. During his remarkable last visit to STVS, the IGAD Executive Secretary, His Excellence Eng. Mahboub Maalim has offered his full support to the STVS training initiative. Emphasizing on the relevant curriculum and the specific location of STVS in the centre of the ASALs, the IGAD Executive Secretary seized the opportunity to thank Terra Nuova for their endeavor to develop the School and Makerere University for their academic mentorship. As a first concrete step, His Excellence Eng. Mahboub Maalim offered scholarships to 10 STVS graduates, bridging their STVS diploma to a fully fledged degree in Veterinary Medicine at Makerere University.
The first batch of 5 students including one female (photo below) is now heading to Makerere to pursue their degree courses at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The second group of five will be joining their brothers and sisters at Makerere University during the coming academic year 2011-2012.
