Mr.Rashid Nur (Garuf), Somaliland Representative to United States arrived ….

BERBERA (SomalilandPress)— Mr.Rashid Nur (Garuf), Somaliland
Representative to United States arrived today at Berbera International Airport
where he was warmly welcome by members of the government and officials from
Berbera local government.

Mr Nur was appointed to his current position as the Somaliland Representative
to USA by President Ahmed Siilanyo and has returned to Somaliland on a working
holiday.

Mr. Rashid Nur is already well known to the Somaliland community in
Washington DC and elsewhere in America where he is already gaining a positive
reputation for the work that he is doing for the Somaliland mission and in
forging new relationships with the US Administration at a range of levels.

Whilst there is considerable sympathy in America for the cause of Somaliland
the task that he and his colleagues face there is considerable. The vast
majority of the US officials have limited knowledge of the dynamics of the Horn
of Africa, whilst senior representatives are anxious lest they cause offense to
the Africa Union (AU). Clarity of message, purpose and mechanisms for
transparency and governance are key requirements. Mr Rashid Nur is well aware
that he and his colleagues have their work cut out and must strive to ensure
that a coherent message is conveyed, not just to Somalilanders, but to the US as
a whole. Analysts and commentators have warned against false dawns and all the
signs are that Somaliland still has considerable work to do to convince senior
members of the US Administration that it has the people and policies in place
worthy of America’s full endorsement.

Mr Nur will be in the country for several weeks and plans to hold a series of
meetings with government officials, NGOs and young people.

US residents that would like to know more about Mr. Rashid Nur, his staff and
their work regarding the Somaliland mission to US can find more information at
