HARGEISA(SomalilandPress)–Symposium vis-à-vis scholarships for Somaliland’s secondary school graduates held on Sept/21st/11 at a governmental institution for exams in Hargeisa, Somaliland marks the first of such programme put forth by the government of Somaliland. The meeting of the scholarships’ contributed by Sudan, Turkey and Egypt which had been partaken by honourable officials of Somaliland government as well as some 300 secondary school graduate students appeared long-awaited opportunity for many.
To be eligible for the scholarships the 300 student will undergo and sit in for an exam that will be led by Somaliland’s Ministry of Education and out of those 300 students participating, the top 200 will be eligible and attain scholarships. The Vice-Minister of Education and Higher education of Somaliland Hon. Ali Hamud Jibril in his remarks to the press said “ As a ministry, one of our policies is to focus on methods giving rise to more scholarships exclusively accessible to secondary school students, similar to these scholarships munificently contributed by the Turkish, Sudanese and Egyptians governments.”
The chair person for Nations Examination Bureau, Mr. Da’ud Ahmed Farah elaborating on this contribution by the respected countries said “of those 300 students taking the exam, 200 students will be privileged in receiving a free scholarships and continue his or her studies abroad”, adding “This will be the first time Somaliland secondary school students have had the chance of this sort.”
Mr. Da’ud, when asked by the media on how the selection process will work, replied “during the selection procedure, we simply look into the students final grades and single out the highest marks obtained by the student.” Mr. Da’ud continuing with his remarks said “and we (Examination Authorities) would highly recommend for the families of the students to kindly obey and respect the rules and regulations of the examination.”
