On arrival in Nairobi the capital of Kenya, the so-called president of Puntland and the alleged godfather of Somalia’s sea piracy cartel did not shy away from the TV cameras, he did not order his henchmen to chase the TV journalists away and did not use invective language, but he proudly looked straight at the cameras like any other statesman and declared that he was going to London, UK “I am invited to deliver a key-note speech on piracy in an international conference in London” He arrogantly declared. This was a terrible event for the victims of sea piracy, human trafficking and terrorism.
I would guess that a notorious drug cartel boss from Colombia or Mexico would not dare to accept an invitation form USA law enforcement agencies as “a key note speaker” in an international conference on the war on drugs in Washington D.C., where he would undoutfully be apprehended and put to rot in jail. Why is Mr. Faroole getting this treatment in London? Is this because the UK government does not care about human-trafficking, sea piracy and human rights abuses overseas and especially in the Horn of Africa?
Just a little over a year ago, Mr. Abdurrahman Faroole indiscriminately purged entire villages inhabited by the Warsangeli clan with heavy artillery-shelling and purportedly murdered civilian men, women and children in cold blood. Last month, he again indiscriminately massacred scores of the rival Laylkase clan in Gal kayo town on the unverified context of fighting terrorists.
Faroole allegedly ordered the inhumane deportation, the rape and mutilation of the bodies of hundreds of the IDPs from South West Somalia. Not only that but Mr. Faroole has blackmailed the TFG of Somalia, who’s Prime Minister, Mr. Abdiweli is non but the alleged architect of Faroole’s policy of terror against IDPs in Puntland. The majority of these IDPs originally came from the starvation-stricken and civil war ravaged Central and Southern Somalia. Mr. Abdiweli channels 30% of the humanitarian assistance for the starving Southern Somalis to the relatively prosperous Puntland, while IDPs are being deported and ill- treated in Puntland. As a matter of fact, Puntland and Alshabab are equally and mercilessly killing Somalis by aggravating the situation in Somalia through a man-made famine, which is far worst than the natural disaster.
Mr. Faroole frequently wages terrorist attacks against Somalia’s Northern neighbour-Somaliland. Faroole’s militias target Somaliland law enforcement officers so as to blackmail Somaliland to soften its fight against sea piracy and human trafficking. Mr. Faroole is aiming to take a full control of the Southern shores of the Red sea and the entire Indian Ocean through the hope of neutralizing the Somaliland law enforcement schemes on sea piracy and human trafficking. A Somaliland bound oil tanker that was held by Puntland pirates was released by the Puntland sea pirates to a Somaliland delegation of elders. The Puntland regime unsuccessfully inspired to persuade the Somaliland government to soften its war against sea piracy by releasing this tanker as sign of courteous good gesture and perhaps hoped to wheedle Somalilanders to join this lucrative sea piracy business – the Somaliland war against sea piracy goes on.
Despite all these, London is welcoming one of the most notorious warlords in Somalia, if not the most ruthless violator of human rights in the entire content of Africa. Sea piracy, human trafficking and terrorising innocent civilians are like drugs; these are crimes that are destroying lives and are equally having serious negative impacts on the lives of millions of people around the world. The perpetrators of these heinous crimes must be severely punished in this era of global economic crisis. Sea piracy and human trafficking are contributing immensely to the economic down-turn of not only the developed countries, but are having a serious bad effect on the economy and the security of developing countries as well. Let there be no red carpet in the United Kingdom for the pirate-in- chief.
