Big asteroid misses Earth.

Berberaneww.com- A black asteroid as big as an aircraft carrier (Ships that carry war planes) made a close but harmless swing by Earth yesterday-Nov/8th/2011,this asteroid known as 2005 YU55 flew past the Earth around 6:30 p.m. ET, closer than the moon’s orbit to our planet.

Scientists at NASA’s Near-Earth Object Program, which tracks asteroids and comets, had ruled out any chance of impact in advance. But they used the close encounter to learn more about asteroids.

Researchers agree that If this asteroid did in fact slam into Earth, the impact would have been powerful enough to wipe out a major city like Los Angeles or Chicago with a direct hit, levelling everything within a 100-kilometre radius and If it fell into the sea/ocean, the asteroid would have created a 200-foot-high wave.

To gather details about the asteroid’s surface description and shape, Scientists are now examining the radar data, which can produce bright 3D images of objects that look dark to human eyes.
