United Nation’s chief Ban Ki-moon visits Somalia for the first time!

Muqdisho,09,Dec,2011-(Berberanews)-UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has arrived in Somalia’s capital, the first visit by the U.N.’s top leader to Mogadishu in years. With All major roads in the city closed and flights in and out of Mogadishu cancelled for security reasons, Mr. Ki-moon wearing a dark blue bulletproof vest when landed met with the leaders of Somalia’s U.N.-backed government and officials from the African Union military force.

During this historic event, Mr. Ban Ki-moon discussed the political situation in Somalia with government officials and said that the U.N.’s Political Office for Somalia will relocate to Mogadishu in January.
 
Mr. Ki-moon said the principle reason for opening the U.N. political office here in Mogadishu is for the U.N. to keep a closer tab on Somalia’s leaders and ensure they are making more progress toward the four goals.
 
The UN secretary general is the highest-ranking foreign official to visit the war-torn city for many years.
