HARGEISA-(Berberanews) —International Banker and CEO of Citibank Tanzania Mr. Jamal Ali Hussein today returned to Somaliland as he was welcome by hundreds of people at Hargeisa’s Egal International Airport. Mr. Hussein who was caught off guard by the presidential reception that he received from the residents of Hargeisa, officials,traditional leaders, the youth groups and the intellectual groups was very humbled by it all.
Mr. Jamal Ali held a short press conference at Summer Time hotel in Hargeisa as he addresses the press on the purpose of his recent trip to Somaliland. Jamal began by first thanking all those that greeted him at the airport on their own without having anyone organized them or drive them there. The rumors that Jamal Ali Hussein will be joining opposition party United People’s Democratic Party (UDUB) was finally put to rest when he acknowledged that the rumors are true. Jamal went on to say “I am officially joining UDUB thus far I plan on contesting the chairmanship of the party in the upcoming primary”.
Political experts in the country have Mr. Jamal Ali Hussein as one of the top runners for the next presidential election due to his large base support from the youth and academic groups. Somaliland has a large youth population that has been very disenchanted with the current political parties that has not produce job creations for the youth. Jamal is said to have been requested by the youth groups in the country to run for the nations head office and therefore he has agreed with them. Many youths were expecting that Mr. Ali would be forming his own political party but now that he has decided to join UDUB it will have to be seen how the youth will take it.
