Djibouti-24-Dec-2011-(berberanews)-The President of the Republic received today Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti, on the occasion of the official visit that he is currently in France.
The two Presidents signed all the new treaty on cooperation in defense, which replaces the defense agreement reached at the independence of Djibouti.
As announced by the President of the Republic in February 2008, the renegotiation of eight defense agreements between France to African countries is in progress. The Treaty just signed with Djibouti is the sixth of this new generation of agreements. These new agreements are marked by the rise of the African Union (AU), and the latter’s partnership with the European Union in peace and security. Based on the principle of reciprocity, the new agreements provide the framework of bilateral military cooperation and identify the facilities granted to our operational forces stationed. They are also characterized by their total transparency: they are submitted to Parliament and published in full.
The signing of the Franco-Djiboutian demonstrates the commitment of both countries to close cooperation on security. France is firmly committed to the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Djibouti, strategically located in the heart of a fragile area. It supports its efforts for peace and security in the region.
Bilateral relations between our two countries and strengthening cooperation between France and Djibouti in the economic and social were also at the heart of this meeting. France is the first bilateral donor to Djibouti, acting especially in the areas of education, health and urban infrastructure. The President of the Republic confirmed our solidarity effort towards Djibouti.
