Tanzania-(Berberanews)-Tanzanian police found 20 illegal Somali migrants suffocated to death as they were being smuggled to South Africa in an overcrowded container truck.
The bodies of the 17 men and three women discovered between Dec/26/11 and Jan/1st/12 were discovered in the Morogoro region, some 200 km west of the commercial capital Dar-El-Salaam, says police commander Adolphina Chialo.
The Tanzanian police said they very much speculate that these victims died due to suffocation and heat exhaustion but investigation is still pending.
Reports say 14 Somalis who are illegal migrants are in custody after they were found hiding their car in a forest and that no one has been charged yet.
Tanzania is a pit-stop transit route for human trafficking and illegal migrants predominately of Somali and Ethiopian nationals making their way to South Africa or Europe.
