Hargeisa (JMG) – Somaliland’s national political parties and National Electoral Commission have agreed to choose Biometric Voter Registration system, a modern computerized system of registering people and that can prevent double voting fraudulent to be made during election period in the forthcoming elections that are expected to take place in the year 2015.
After one day discussion by the head officials of the three political parties, NEC and representatives from international donors, they have finally fully agreed to choose Biometric system of voter registration from 3 other registration systems which are exposed by the Creative Associate Company, an international company that has recently won the voter registration tender.
Acting Secretary General of UCID party Mr. Nasir Yousuf Qodah who spoke to the media after the meeting, told the importance of this system and that it will prevent people from double voting during the election period.
“National Political parties and NEC have finally agreed Biometric system of voter registration to be the final agreed system of registering people. This system will prevent voters to vote several times and also to take voting cards from different areas. This system is used in the sensitive areas including International airports to detect people. it is a computerized and modernized system and the people will be pictured from the eyes.” Added Mr. Qodah.
