SOMALILAND: UN Envoy Concerned Over the Military Tension between Somaliland and Puntland

Addis Ababa, (SM) -UN Special envoy to Somaliland and Somalia ambassador Nicholas Kay on Monday called Somaliland and Puntland to exercise restraint while delivering his speech during the 425th meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council held in Addis Ababa.
 ‘’I am concerned by the military tensions between Puntland and Somaliland in the Sool and Sanaag regions. I call for maximum caution and avoidance of confrontation,’’ said the UN Envoy.
Ambassador Kay also warned of an increased threat of attacks from Somalia’s Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab as a major offensive launched against them this month gathers pace.
“Coinciding with the offensive and even ahead of it, Al-Shebab have become more active,” UN envoy to Somalia, Nicholas Kay, told AFP.
