Somali Community Celebrates Historic Election Wins in Washington State

Seattle, WA (Somali Bridge) – The Somali community in the greater Seattle area recently celebrated historic wins in this year’s elections.

This year’s elections brought out an unprecedented number of candidates, with 4 out of the 6 elected.

Hamdi Mohamed became the first Muslim immigrant elected to the Port of Seattle Commission, while 24-year-old Mohamed Abdi became the youngest Council member ever elected to the city of Tukwila.

Mohamed Egal was also elected to the SeaTac city council, a city with large Somali residents.

Awale Farah was elected to position 4 of Kent School Board. The event brought together members of the community, prominent leaders and featured famous Somali artist Ilkacase Qays.
