The women who pushed to ban the bomb in Greenham Common 1981.

Ann Pettitt organized a women-led march from Cardiff, Wales, to Greenham Common, Berkshire, England, in 1981 to oppose the installation of American nuclear-tipped cruise missiles there.

Some women stayed and established a peace camp outside the airbase, which eventually grew to thousands of women from all across Europe.

Watch Ann Pettitt describe why she and other women were willing to abandon their children and careers to sleep outside in the cold in order to prevent a nuclear war.
