#Florida -(Berberanews)Hundreds of inhabitants in the US state of #Florida were forced to flee their homes as a wave of wildfires surged over the area, igniting dead vegetation.
The fires in Florida’s Panhandle charred 4,800 hectares (12,000 acres) of land on Monday and were just 10% contained near villages east of Panama City, according to Florida Forest Service spokeswoman Joe Zwierzchowski.
During a press conference, he remarked, “We have another day of pretty sustained winds pushing fire toward these communities.” “By increasing cloud cover and humidity, we should be able to control some of the fire behavior we’ve witnessed.”
There have been no reports of injuries or deaths.
The wildfires have erupted amid growing anxiety in many parts of the #UnitedStates about the effects of drought and climate change.
The latest fires, according to experts, were fueled by dead vegetation and timber left over from Hurricane Michael, which hit the Panhandle in 2018.
The Category 5 storm left behind 72 million tonnes of heavy vegetation, which has been dried out by the area’s dryness.
