21-Feb-2023, Hargeysa – Respecting the ceasefire announced, the Government of the Republic of Somaliland, has sent a Peace Mission to the Sool Region, consisting of Somaliland’s Cultural Leaders, and we are hopeful that a resolution will be reached regarding the conflict in the city of Lasanood.
This morning, in an act directly violating the implementation of the ceasefire, armed groups launched a large-scale attack on the bases of the National Army of the Republic of Somaliland in Lasaanood. The National Army of the Republic of Somaliland adhered to the ceasefire and did not initiate an attack back but defended itself against the attack.
The government of the Republic of Somaliland reiterates the call for the ceasefire and asks that the Peace Mission who are currently in the Sool Region be respected and unharmed.
